The Capitals have told Chris Bourque that if they'll can't find room for him on their roster, they'll try to trade him.
Another alternative would be to send the winger back to Hershey (AHL).
Entering his fifth pro season, Bourque collected 73 points over 69 games last season with Hershey.
Trade Rumor - Hockey Wiretap
GM: Kessel Trade Could Be Coming
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli admitted to the Boston Globe that a trade involving Phil Kessel could be imminent.
"Is there anything imminent? Yes, possibly," he told the Globe.
ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reported that Leafs general manager Brian Burke and Chiarelli talked for an hour before their teams played each other in an exhibition on Thursday.
Chiarelli Won't Discuss Kessel's Status
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli refused to discuss Phil Kessel this weekend.
More than three months after free agency started, Kessel, a restricted free agent, still doesn't know where he'll be playing this season.
"I am not commenting on trade speculation or contract negotiations," Chiarelli told the Boston Globe. "Any questions about the hockey team?"
Leafs Lead Race For Kessel
The Maple Leafs are believed to be the front-runners for Phil Kessel.
Kessel, a restricted free agent, could be signed to an offer sheet by Toronto, but a trade with Boston appears more likely.
Sources: Heatley Heading To San Jose?
The Senators have reached an agreement to send Dany Heatley to the Sharks, NHL sources told ESPN's John Buccigross.
The 28-year-old forward is set to be part of a three-team deal that would send the Sharks' Patrick Marleau to the Kings and the Kings' Alexander Frolov and Jarret Stoll to the Senators.
Sharks GM Doug Wilson, Senators GM Bryan Murray and Kings GM Dean Lombardi denied the report to ESPN.com.
Burke Admits Interest In Kessel
Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke admitted his interest in Phil Kessel on Tuesday.
Burke believes that Kessel, a restricted free-agent with the Bruins, is the perfect player for Toronto.
"I'm not sure what's going to happen next," Burke said the Globe and Mail.
"I think everyone knows we reacquired a draft pick. It puts us in a situation to affect the chain of events for certain players. It's sort of a day-to-day thing. I'm not sure what the next step is there. I think it's clear to everyone that we're trying to upgrade our forward group. And we'll see what happens."
The Rangers and Predators are also reportedly interested in Kessel, who the Bruins claim they haven't given up on.
However, Boston will have to move or demote a player in order to fit Kessel.
Rangers Make Most Sense For Heatley
The Rangers could be the most likely suitor for Dany Heatley.
Heatley, who has been at odds with the Senators for a majority of the offseason, is scheduled to report to the team's annual golf tournament on Friday.
The Ottawa Citizen believes that a deal involving New York's Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky makes the most sense for Heatley and the Senators.
Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray always liked Staal, who he wanted the team to draft back in 2005 when he was the team's head coach.
Hurricanes Expected To Move Babchuk
Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford expects to move defenseman Anton Babchuk prior to training camp.
"Teams are feeling their way as to where the cap was and how much they had to give him. And now we're getting right down to the end," Rutherford told SportingNews.com. "There's more teams poking around."
The Sporting News is reporting that three teams are interested in Babchuk, a restricted free agent.
"I would expect that something is going to happen with him prior to camp this week," Rutherford said.
Alfredsson To Senators: Trade Heatley
Daniel Alfredsson wants to see the Senators trade Dany Heatley.
Earlier this offseason, Alfredsson said that he believed Heatley could return to the team without issue. Now, he isn't sure that Heatley has a valid reason for his discontent in Ottawa.
"All I know is that he has his reasons," Alfredsson said. "I'm not sure if he has told the whole story, or if there is something else.
"We felt that we finished on a good note as a team last year. I haven't talked to him and don't know exactly what his reasons are. Maybe there's something else involved, as well. I can only speculate, and I'd like not to."
Not mincing words, Alfredsson said he believes that the best outcome for everyone involved would be for the Senators to trade Heatley as soon as possible.
"It would be the best scenario for everyone," he said. "But if it was that easy, I think something would have already been done.
"We're ready for whatever happens and we'll make something good out of it."
